Viggle Tries To Right The Ship After Failed GetGlue Merger, Revenue Rises 88%, Registered Users Up 42% For The Quarter

viggleSocial TV and the second screen experience is quickly catching on among viewers, but the space as a whole is still nascent. While many are eager for a better social TV experience, as there’s plenty of upside for fans, advertisers and broadcasters alike, collectively we’ve all been waiting for one of these players to hit critical mass.

When Viggle announced in November that it would be merging with GetGlue, it seemed as if the combination of two of the leading apps in the space would be a step in that direction. But, fast forward two months, and the Viggle/GetGlue merger was dead in the water.

Layoffs For NM Incite, The Nielsen-McKinsey Venture That Does Twitter’s TV Ratings

NM Incite — an analytics JV between Nielsen and McKinsey that forms part of Nielsen’s Twitter TV Rating service with Twitter — has started to lay off employees, and we’ve even heard that NM Incite will be shut down altogether by the end of this month.

Twitter Confirms Purchase Of Bluefin Labs To Boost TV Analytics And Advertising Services

bluefin labs logoOn the heels of impressive engagement around around this past weekend’s Super Bowl football championship, Twitter today officially confirmed that it has purchased Bluefin Labs, a social TV analytics service. The deal had been reported first yesterday by Business Insider. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed but BI notes that it’s Twitter’s biggest acquisition to date.

Report: Social TV Market To Be Worth $256.44BN By 2017; Europe Taking Largest Share Now

3226522787_8491c00df2The global social TV market is already a multi-billion dollar industry, with TV giants betting big money on second screen viewing, but the market is set for double-digit growth in the the next five years, according to a report by market research firm MarketsandMarkets. The research firm expects the market to grow from $151.14 billion this year, to $256.44 billion by 2017.

TVGuide.com Acquires Fav.Tv To Expand Mobile App Team

tvguide logoTVGuide.com has acquired social TV startup Fav.Tv in what executive vice president and general manager Christy Tanner says is a straightforward talent acquisition.

Plenty of startups are trying to reinvent the tv guide — including Fav.Tv, which was described, when it launched last fall, as not “your grandmother’s TV Guide.” But TVGuide.com (which operates the TV Guide digital properties while licensing the name to the print magazine publisher) has been trying to evolve too. It unveiled a new feature in August called Watchlist, which incorporates social elements, as well as on-demand/digital listings.
