Social Crowdfunding Platform Rally.org Expands To Europe With New Berlin Incubator And Donations In Euros, With Pounds Coming Soon

berlinhotelsRally.org, the U.S.-based crowdfunding platform designed for socially-minded causes, is taking its mission to Europe. Today, the startup is opening an incubator in Berlin, its first outside of the U.S., and on a limited beta will start to process donations made on its proprietary payment platform in euros, with the intention of adding British pounds and other currencies in the very near future.

The funding also coincides with Klash rolling out a new version of its iOS app that adds the ability to create an animated GIF as proof that a particular dare or challenge was carried out.

Bang With Friends, the controversial Facebook app that lets you privately nominate who in your friends network you want to hook up with and alerts you if they feel the same, has got itself some competition. Would Love 2 has emerged with a similar proposition: After downloading the iOS app, you select who you’d like to date from your Facebook contacts and add your selection to the app’s ‘locker. This information is then kept private until such time when the recipient of your undeclared admiration puts you in their ‘locker’, at which point the app declares a match and sends you both an iOS notification. What you do with that information is up to you, of course, although undoubtedly there are a number of ephemeral messaging apps that can help with that, too.

Glow Digital Media logoGlow Digital Media, a social ad tech platform that sells services to Facebook advertisers to grow their marketing ROI, has closed a $1.3 million seed funding round. Investors in the round include Project A Ventures and Avonmore Developments. The U.K. startup said it has used the funding to expand into the U.S. — opening a new regional HQ in Los Angeles and hiring four new senior execs.

Facebook’s Revenue Per User In North America Is Now 3-4X Europe and Nearly 6X Asia (But User Growth In Its Cash Cow Is Slowing Down)

fb-earthFacebook’s user base is growing much faster outside of the U.S. than it is in its home market, but it has a little problem: those users are continuing to generate far less revenue than U.S. consumers do for the company. Facebook noted in its Q4 earnings today that average revneues per user (ARPU) for the U.S. in the quarter was $4.08, compared to $1.71 in Europe, $0.69 in Asia and only $0.56 in the rest of the world. That makes for a disproportionate amount coming from the U.S:

Wonder No More. Yandex Pulls Social Discovery App After Facebook Closes Door On Graph API Use + Says It’s A Competing Search Engine

Facebook Wonder FixedSome closure on the story of how Yandex — the Russian search giant — built a social discovery app that relied on Facebook interconnection to gather data, and then found Facebook blocking its service within hours of launching. Today Yandex said that after discussions with the social network, Facebook has finally, terminally said that the app violates its Platform Policies, specifically on the point of Wonder being a competing search engine. Facebook will not reinstate the ability to use Facebook’s Graph API, so as a result, Yandex is planning to pulll the app from the app store and put it on hold for now.

reputation.comRedwood City-based online reputation management company Reputation.com has announced it’s acquired Liverpool, U.K.-based Reputation 24/7 to bolster its international business. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Reputation 24/7 has been rebranded Reputation.com (U.K.) and will sell Reputation.com’s suite of consumer and business online reputation management offerings to European customers.

Facebook Quietly Tightens Its PayPal Payout Policy, Now Requires Extra ID In Countries Like China, Brazil, India, And Israel

facebook-money-360As Facebook continues to build out the App Center and its overall business as a platform for third parties, it’s also tightening up how payment policies work within it. In one of the latest moves, the company has changed how it pays out to PayPal accounts for new (not existing) developers who select that option. Specifically, Facebook now requires extra levels of authentication for new developers from certain countries, including large, emerging markets like China, India, Brazil but also some mature countries such as Australia, Japan and Norway.
