As Facebook continues to build out the App Center and its overall business as a platform for third parties, it’s also tightening up how payment policies work within it. In one of the latest moves, the company has changed how it pays out to PayPal accounts for new (not existing) developers who select that option. Specifically, Facebook now requires extra levels of authentication for new developers from certain countries, including large, emerging markets like China, India, Brazil but also some mature countries such as Australia, Japan and Norway.
Twilio was founded four years ago with the goal of creating a scalable API that would provide developers with an easy way to add SMS and calling tools to their applications. The company has grown quickly over the last two years and is now servicing 40 countries and has signed on over 250K developers. Its international development took another step forward last month, when it broke into Japan with an exclusive deal with KDDI telecom, which is now selling Twilio’s cloud communications APIs to developers — which followed on the heels of a deal signed with AT&T in October.
Facebook today announced a brand-new version of its Facebook SDK for iOS, offering a ton of new features and perhaps most notably, support for iOS 6. (More on all this in a bit). But the company is also introducing another major resource for its developer community: the launch of a new iOS Dev Center, where it’s centralizing access to developer tools and resources.
