Foursquare Gets Better For Business: You Can Now Add Events To Your Venue

This is a pretty huge step towards helping you find new places to go and tell your friends about why you go there…without doing any work.

Foursquare Launches Check-In Report Emails

Our stats are a bit thin, but I was happy to see this comprehensive location report come from Foursquare a few minutes ago! The report provides a weekly snapshot on who has checked in, what the reach is, whether they shared the check-in, and top customers. What Lies Beyond The Check-In: Foursquare To Launch Big New Redesign Next Week

allnew4sqIf you’re following Foursquare on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed that the check-in champions have been teasing the release of the “all new Foursquare” app for the last few days, dropping hints that it was coming soon to app stores near you.

Continuing to use the hashtag #allnew4sq, Foursquare last night dropped the news on Twitter that it will be releasing its big new redesign at some point next week. [Photos below.] Now, while that may seem like a ho-hum revelation for some, this is likely to be the culmination of a new direction for Foursquare.

Check-In Needs To Work, But How Can We Fix It?

shutterstock_56330170Remember Highlight? That app that everyone thought was hot stuff back at SXSW? I used it for a few days and then deleted it, discovering quite quickly that the app, despite some utility, was an absolute battery hog. But what Highlight did was prove that, given the proper scenario, check-in works and is important. What frustrates me most, however, is that we keep doing it wrong.

Take this new app, Chkin.at, for example. It allows you to check-in at various websites and to become King of a certain page, thereby giving you certain conjugal rights with the ladies of your Kingdom (not really). Rather than dismiss it outright – it kind of works, but it spurred this little rant – I’ll note that it, like so many other apps, suffers from that fatal flaw: the check-in.
